Gonzalo Solari - Guitarrista

THEY WROTE ABOUT HIM:

Gonzalo Solari has a perfect left hand, his agility in fingering and his technique are amazing. The quality of his sound is wide, strong and flexible. Splendid in his "pianissimi", he demonstrated to have the gift of the good guitarists. He carried the audience in a continuous crescendo, this reflecting another aspect of his surprising musical character.

We attended an excellent concert. Gonzalo Solari has a superb technique full of resources, which permits him to easily overcome the most difficult passages. His touch is warm, bright and clear. He has an admirable mastering of phrasing.

Lorenzo Aguirre Romano, music critic, "Ultimas Noticias", Montevideo, Uruguay 10/26/87.

In front of a large audience, Gonzalo Solari stood out for the vivid sharpness of his sound, the great command of the instrument and the liveliness of his interpretations, all widely acclaimed.

News from Associazione Giovanile Musicale Roma (N° 12, 3rd. Year, December 1984).

Amira de la Rosa Theater of Barranquilla welcomed Maestro Gonzalo Solari . A varied program in which the music by Llobet, Barrios and Villa-Lobos was once more exposed to his exquisite and expressive spirit. His bright and diaphanous touch and his left hand technique enchanted the public. With an interpreter of the quality and prestige of Gonzalo Solari, the passion for guitar in our city, will strengthen day after day.

... we listened to him at the SODRE Auditorium (National Interpreters Season). In this good-bye concert, Solari has spaced from popular music to works by the great maestros of guitar: Villa-Lobos, Brouwer, Sor, Tarrega, and also experimental music by Neri, showing once again the confluence of a great school with an analitic personality of high stylistic refinement.

Nelson Giguens Risso, music critic, Review; "Sinfonica", n. 44, Montevideo, Uruguay, September 1998.

Gonzalo Solari has shown a high mastery of repertoire, combining his talent and the potentiality of his instrument in such a dynamical way to get to convince us that it was "his" guitar the great protagonist. It was this his greatest success, together with his fingering technique and a sense of colour so natural to seem that the guitar could achieve its harmony almost by spontaneous generation. Without any doubt this concert outstands the others of this season because of its high level. We could listen to the instrument of our compatriot who obtained important awards in the Old World and who arrived here with the maturity he achieved playing on the most exigent stages.

Fernando Gonząlez, "El Heraldo" de Florida,
Uruguay, 08/13/97.

For this concert of the Chamber Music Season from the Ministry of Culture and Education organized by Julieta Nicolini, the guitarist , who is living abroad, chose a very convincing program.
Gonzalo Solari has won a rather amazing sequence of awards, he registers for a Sweden seal, he teaches and takes part of international juries. We could expect this if Solari had the character to confirm as an adult the qualities he used to show when we were young classmates at the National Conservatory of Music. In this concert he faced the repertoire with absolute control and self confidence in front of a crowded concert hall, this to confirm the good health of this concert season and the popularity the guitar enjoys among the public.

... a careful work by Solari on the little "pasillo" "Luna de Enero" by the "costeno" unknown composer and guitarist Jose Mazzili.

... an exceptional guitarist because of his excellent aptitudes for guitar and music. Gonzalo Solari is a guitarist who deserves the applause of the public.

Abel Carlevaro, Montevideo, 10/22/81.

With an extensive and intensive concert and teaching activity, Solari is one of the best exponents of the guitar world. After five long years he turned back to our country for a concert tournee. This series of concerts started in the comfortable National Library Concert Hall. The performance was excellent. Gifted with a warm and diaphanous touch, Gonzalo Solari projected a dynamic pulsation to the partitures, showing his solid technical background and also his profound stylistic rigour. The public who crowded the concert hall Dr. Carlos Vaz Ferreira at the National Library, paid him homage with a long, warm and well deserved applause.

Gonzalo Solari, born Uruguayan but "aretino" by adoption, is one of the best classical guitarists of the world. It's in the change of timbre that he finds the right harmonic equilibrium.
He is a refined sound modeler who prefers poetry to virtuosism: but it's well-known, everything is more difficult just when it seems easier. I want to add something that I didn't shout at his last concert, owing to an excessive self-control: Bravo!
